The first half was evenly balanced fare with Aodh Ruadh doing most of their damage through goals. A decent crowd also attended to get behind t he team on a beautiful day for football. It was w elcome sight to see an Aodh Ruadh team back representing the town with 26 p layers togging out on the day. Aodh Ruadh showed their depth by bringing on Sean O'Neill and Tyler Connolly in the second half and the pair rattled up a 1-4 tally betw een them. Ben Daly made some outstanding, brave saves between the sticks, while he was well s erved by Liam Doogan, Garreth Brennan, Corey Sheridan and Barry Campbell in the defence. The seniors victory was built on an awesome defensive display. Up front Eoin Gallagher put in a starring shift in the atta ck. Stephen Doran did well in defence with Jun Hui Lin excelle nt in midfield. T he juniors had five points to spare at the end of an entertaining tussle wi th the visitors. Both the seniors and juniors recorded good wins. The under 12s opened their league action with the visit of Naomh Conaill to Ballyshannon on Friday. The round robin stages of the league are then wrapped up w ith the return game away to Dungloe next Monday. The first is on Wednesday against Naomh Conaill in Father Tierney Park at 6.30pm. The team have two games in the com ing week. Cian Rooney h ad fabulous game in the centre of the park, while up front Conall Bradshaw put in a sterling shift at wing forward. Kyle McCaffrey continues to catch the eye in defence and develops greater presence with each passing game. Aaron Cullen had a sound game between the posts and couldn't be faulted for any of the goals. Ballyshannon were able to push on in the secon d half and finished 7-13to 3-9 victors to register their fourth win in fou r outings. Aodh Ruadh however pulle d themselves together and managed to reel the deficit back to go in leading by two points at the break. The air miles didn't take too much out of the visitors as they got stuck into t he Ernesiders, racing into a 3-1 to no score lead. The under 16s were in action on a glorious Sunday morning in Páirc Aoi dh Ruaidh against a Dungloe side making the long trip from the Rosses. More than that, we would really like to see supporters really get behind th e team and let them know how much their success really means to this town. We would like to see a good showing of Ballyshannon support on Sunday. We wish all concerned the very best for the season ahe ad. We entertain Buncrana in Father Tierne y Park this Sunday with the senior game throwing in at 3pm, preceded by the reserves at 1.30pm. As is the nature of things, it is a changed panel from the year previous, but re sults have been promising and the management and squad have set themselves high objectives for the 2019 season. They h ave put in a determined effort in pre-season as they prepare the side for r igours of a second tier that is never anything less than competitive. Aodh Ruadh are in Division 2 this season under the stewardship of Barry Ward and Philip O'Reilly. Sunday sees the return of the senior leagues.
